This past weekend was very rainy and yucky. I had to postpone an engagement shoot that was scheduled for outside. With that time, I decided to set up a little studio in my garage. I've been wanting to do this for a long time. My garage isn't always suitable for setting up a studio. It usually has a car in it. But lately, we've been using it as a "playroom" while the weather is still nice.
Really simple. My speedlite on a stand with an umbrella, a white reflector, camera on a tripod and a black backdrop. I was impressed with what I could do with so little! With my ever so willing models to the rescue, I was able to play around with this set up.
I like this concept of not having any clothing in the portrait. It's such an honest, pure, clean look.
One thing we learned is that it's hard to sit in front of a camera when it's just you and the camera. We're in my garage, remember. It's not at all beautiful, yet we're trying to create a beautiful image. We tried different angles, different actions, smiles, no smiles.. until something started to work. Above, I really liked Kristen playing with her hair. She decided to curl it for the shoot and in attempt to enhance the curls, she started wrapping it around her fingers. I loved it, so we went with it.
One of my absolute, all time favorites. I can hear her through this photo! She's such a beautiful person with an incredibly sarcastic sense of humor. This shot shows her beauty and personality.
This guy. He's always photo ready with his malleable hair. Haha! (inside joke)
I even got my Mom to participate! Isn't she beautiful?!?!
I'm looking forward to doing this again! I really like having a garage in the snowy winter, but if my kids will let me, I may create a space inside for a little studio.
